President’s message

To Our Community:

As I reflect on our history of over 75 years in business, I want to thank our entire community, and especially our customers and friends, for the support you have provided. Whether you have been a lifetime customer or are a newcomer to our bank, we truly appreciate being of service to you. Over the past few years a new generation of investors has joined our bank, marking our most significant ownership change in over 25 years. Following this transition, our bank continues to be owned and directed by local investors concerned with the long-term success of our institution for the benefit of our community. Our board of directors now includes Dan Condon, an attorney from DeWitt; Bill Barnes, a DeWitt grocer; Chris Hansen, a Calamus and Grand Mound area farmer; Randy Hunt, a DeWitt dentist; Jeff Graves, a Durant area farmer, realtor, and former banker; Ron Larson, a bank consultant and former banker; and myself, the bank’s president, a part-time farmer, and former bank examiner.

Our employees are also principal shareholders of DeWitt Bank & Trust Co. Through their employee stock ownership plan, our employees invest their own money along with matching funds provided by the bank. By owning a significant share of the bank, our employees have a vested interest in the bank’s success.

Our common sense approach to banking has allowed us to be recognized as a top performing bank among our peers. In its April 2009 issue, Iowa Banking Magazine, Inc. placed our bank in the top 20 of 376 banks in the state for 2008 based on key financial ratios. In 2010, our financial ratios topped those of 2009 and we were rated in the top 20 again.

We are proud of our 75 years of community banking. With a new generation of owners in place, and in view of the current economy and national debate about our banking system, we thought it important to let you know that DeWitt Bank & Trust Co. is positioned to serve another 75 years as your independent community bank!
